David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Saturday 30th April 2011

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is a snippet from an article in The Times today by Nigel Lindsay who wrote about preparing to play Shrek on stage.

The snippet reads:
"I'm doing an [scottish] accent. The Scottish members of the ensemble are complimentary but I detect a hint of Welsh-Pakistani to be eradicated amid the Highland brogue. I call David Tennant and ask him if I can pop round and tape his voice for the Scottish accent. "I'm thinking of trying a hybrid of you and Kenny Dalglish". "If you do Kenny the tourists won't understand a word," he replies. "Yeah, but you're too fey for Shrek," I tell him. "Don't worry, I'll butch up for the tape," he assures me...!"

(Many thank to PolyG on GallifreyBase for typing the snippet.)

Photo below shows David Tennant and Nigel Lindsay in The Pillowman.

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is the third vampire story which David Tennant read during his stint on Book At Bedtime in November 2010.

This story is called The Horla. The description the BBC posted was "After an unusual Brazilian ship enters the harbour - our hero suddenly begins to feel unwell, and starts to have feverish and disturbing visions. Only too late does he discover the demonic nature of the South American ship's cargo."

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Sunday 24th April 2011

As it's Easter Day, the David Tennant Treat 4 Today is an Easter Egg!

It's from the Doctor Who Series Three DVD box-set and is from the episode Blink. During Blink it is explained what an Easter Egg is on a DVD. Basically it's a hidden clip so the box-set arrived with one which is the video below.

It's just The Doctor's part of the conversation with Sally Sparrow and shows David Tennant's great acting as he has to leave pauses between what he says so that her responses could be slotted in.

Enjoy and Happy Easter to all our 35,400 followers!!!

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Saturday 23rd April 2011

The website IGN announced their list of favourite Doctors from Doctor Who with David Tennant's Tenth Doctor coming top of the list.

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is IGN's description of the Tenth Doctor and David's characterisation of him, along with the reasons that the website chose him as their favourite:

The Tenth Doctor
Portrayed by: David Tennant
Tenure: 2005–2010
Signature Look: Pinstriped suit and tie, long tan overcoat, Converse sneakers
Notable Companions: Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Martha Jones, Capt. Jack Harkness, Donna Noble
Favorite Quirk: Wore glasses, though he doesn't need them.

Putting shallowness aside for the moment (I'll come back to that, trust me), David Tennant wins as the best Doctor of them all not just because of his emotional range and commitment to the role (although those are both standout qualities), but for raising the profile of Doctor Who to new, global heights. During his tenure, and for the first time, the show grew so much in popularity overseas that the broadcast window had to be shortened to combat the downloading of new episodes in countries where they hadn't yet aired.

Following after the melancholy, emotionally scarred Ninth Doctor, Tennant's Tenth Doctor was a sweeter, more lighthearted version, with the ability to turn on a dime and become deadly serious – and quite menacing when he had to be – in an instant.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's tall, dark and quite easy on the eyes (see, I told you I'd get to the shallow stuff eventually). Really, though, it all comes down to this: If the TARDIS landed in my back yard tomorrow, which Doctor would I want to step out and invite me on board? I'd have say the Tenth, no contest.

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Wednesday 20th April 2011

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is a tribute to Elisabeth Sladen who sadly died yesterday.
After she had appeared with the third and four doctors (Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker) in the 1970s, Russell T Davies brought her back to star in David Tennant's episode School Reunion.
She also appeared in his episodes The Stolen Earth and Journey's End, plus his final episode The End Of Time Part Two.
RTD also made the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures and David Tennant's final filming as the Tenth Doctor was in the two episodes in that series called The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith.
The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is a video of the final part of that episode. When it first aired lots of fans reported getting tearful at the part where Sarah Jane asked The Doctor if she would ever see him again.
That scene carries an even more powerful emotion now.

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Tuesday 19th April 2011

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is the disappointing interview with David Tennant from BBC Four Extra today.

It's disappointing because it was just part of his interview from Desert Island Discs (and he was introduced as the Ninth Doctor)!

It appears that it was included as it was his birthday this week (and most likely to increase their audience size!).

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is a picture which has been posted onto several fan websites in these past couple of days.

As today David Tennant was immortalised on a Royal Mail stamp due to his role in Hamlet, the David Tennant Treat 4 Today is the To Be Or Not To Be soliloquy from the filmed version of the play.

The way he speaks the soliloquy in the filmed version is however very different from the way he delivered it on stage each night.

Monday 11 April 2011

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Monday 11th April 2011

In December the BBC screened a documentary called Polar Bear: Spy On The Ice which was narrated by David Tennant.

The American programme 60 minutes produced a "making of" programme about the clever filming techniques used.

Towards the end of the original programme David explained what happened to the various cameras but this video shows how they got the cameras into position in the first place and the problems of filming in such a hostile landscape.

Although this video doesn't feature David Tennant, I thought it would still make an interesting David Tennant Treat 4 Today.

As rehearsals for Much Ado About Nothing started today (see here for more details), the David Tennant Treat 4 Today is a clip from the Radio Three version of the play when David Tennant played Benedick.

Many thanks to the person who suggested this clip who explained "I particularly like this extract because for the first time Benedick honestly contemplate his love for Beatrice. And I like hearing David Tennant say “I did never think to marry" or "for I will be horribly in love with her.”

I thought this is a good way to wait for the stage version!"
