Peter made his announcement on The Jo Whiley Show the previous evening on BBC Radio Two. He will leave during the 2017 Christmas Special.
David described Peter as "I think he had an intensity, and a bravery and a cleverness. He was a fantastic choice. He'll be missed."
David also spoke about how much he enjoyed playing the Tenth Doctor and that his Broadchurch co-star Olivia Colman would make be a magnificent Thirteenth Doctor! That item has been misquoted by various websites and newspapers ever since!
