David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Tuesday 30th November 2010

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is another of those videos which show him interacting with fans which I always find fascinating to watch!

This one was taken at Stratford-Upon-Avon but is inside the theatre as they were collecting for a charity that evening. David went behind the information desk and was signing autographs for £5 each.

You can also see the stage blood on his fencing outfit!

Friday 26 November 2010

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Friday 26th November 2010

As David Tennant is reading the Book At Bedtime each night this week (10.45pm on BBC Radio 4) the David Tennant Treat 4 Today each day this week is looking at David Tennant and / or Tenth Doctor books.

The book today is called Rex Is Not Your TV Show and is by M.L. Zambrana.

The book is self-published and is only available on Kindle (or similar). It was published in June 2010 and is available at this link for £3.63.

The actual narrative is about 80 pages in length plus there is an intro and then credits at the end.

The actual narrative took me less than half an hour to read but it must be difficult to write a book about a TV show that you've never seen and didn't make it to air (it was produced before the clip was posted online).

The intro deals with why it's not the book the author wanted to write and then there are pages about how the show happened (see the sample pages below). Most of the part about the filming and subsequent mentions of the programme which makes up the remainder of the book were all reported on David Tennant websites at the time.

I think the only thing I leaned by reading it was who all the crew members were but the names won't mean much to the average fan.

Below are scans of the first few pages of the book. Click on each one for a larger version.

Thursday 25 November 2010

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Thursday 25th November 2010

As David Tennant is reading the Book At Bedtime each night this week (10.45pm on BBC Radio 4) the David Tennant Treat 4 Today each day this week is looking at David Tennant and / or Tenth Doctor books.

The book today is called End Of Ten and is by Stephen James Walker.

The book was published by Telos in August 2010 and is available at this link and is £30 for the hardback and £14.99 for the paperback (plus postage in both cases).

It is about 220 pages in length but less than half of those pages are proper narrative. The remaining pages are about the cast (David Tennant gets one page), synposis of the Specials, about the ratings and even all the comic strips.

I must admit that I haven't read all this book. When it first arrived I was disappointed at how little narrative there was and how much statistical type of data. I then started reading and was horrified that the first paragraph said that the Specials were because David was playing Hamlet and not the other way around!

I think that for a complete collection you should buy the book but that's about all.

Below are scans of the first few pages of the book. Click on each one for a larger version.

Wednesday 24 November 2010

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Wednesday 24th November 2010

As David Tennant is reading the Book At Bedtime each night this week (10.45pm on BBC Radio 4) the David Tennant Treat 4 Today each day this week is looking at David Tennant and / or Tenth Doctor books.

The book today is called David Tennant A Year In The Spotlight and is by Sue Williams.

It is available from Amazon from this link for £12 or the Kindle version is available from this link for £1.46. It is also sold from this website with both a physical version and a PDF version.

The book was published in November 2009 and it is only available in paperback or electronic form. All proceeds from this book go to the cancer charity AICR which David Tennant supports.

The book is 359 pages in length plus there are 34 pages of reviews of Hamlet and Love's Labour's Lost at the back. It is full of photos (both colour and black and white) including a couple of exclusive pictures.

There are 7 reviews of the book on Amazon who gave it an average of 4.5 out of five stars.

It is the most detailed book about David Tennant but it is not exactly a biography as it only looks at his career during 2008 and the beginning of 2009 (when he finished playing Hamlet). It is not at all intrusive and only deals with his private life where it was published in the press (and then often in a dismissive manner). It also covers the reaction of fans online. As it is a self-published book there are some typos in it.

Some of the black and white photos are a little dark but there are lots of colour pages throughout the book, for example each episode of Doctor Who has a separate page of photos. It can be a little dry but for 2008 it is the most informative book about David Tennant. A version about David Tennant in 2009 and 2010 is due to be published in January 2011.

Below are scans of the first few pages of the book. Click on each one for a larger version.

The next page is just photos of David.

The next page is just photos of David.

Tuesday 23 November 2010

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Tuesday 23rd November 2010

As David Tennant is reading the Book At Bedtime each night this week (10.45pm on BBC Radio 4) the David Tennant Treat 4 Today each day this week is looking at David Tennant and / or Tenth Doctor books.

The book today is called David Tennant Casebook and is by Molly Mitchell.

It is available from Amazon from this link for £7.99 but there does not appear to be a Kindle version available.

The book was published in April 2009 and it is only available in hardback.

The book is 62 pages in length and is full of colour photos (although none of them are exclusive pictures). It also comes with a colour poster of a photo of David from about 2005.

There is only one review of the book on Amazon who gave it one out of five stars.

For the photos it's an interesting book to buy but I think of it more as an annual rather than a biography as it's written in a dumbed down style with quotes from other interviews.

The book covers David's career from the start until when he was playing Hamlet although I didn't read anything in the book that I did not already know.

Below are scans of the first few pages of the book. Click on each one for a larger version.

The next page is just a photo of David.

Monday 22 November 2010

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Monday 22nd November 2010

As David Tennant is reading the Book At Bedtime each night this week (10.45pm on BBC Radio 4) the David Tennant Treat 4 Today each day this week will look at David Tennant and / or Tenth Doctor books.

The book today is called A Life In Time And Space by Nigel Goodall.

It is available from Amazon from this link for £8.59 but there does not appear to be a Kindle version available.

The hardback was published in September 2008 and the paperback version in October 2009 (the latter does not appear to be an updated version).

The book is exactly 200 pages in length plus there are 14 pages of colour photos (although none of them are exclusive pictures). There is also a glossary of terms at the back.

Reviewers on Amazon only give it one out of five stars and there are 25 reviews on the site of which all do not like it.

Personally I found it quite an intrusive book and I especially did not like the way the author gave the impression he knew exactly what was going on inside David's head! That may be the reason that I witnessed David refuse to sign the book when someone asked him and gave his opinion that it was "rubbish."

The book covers David's career from the start until June 2008 (and ponders whether he will play the fifth series of Doctor Who) but lacks details about the beginning of his career. I didn't read anything in the book that I did not already know.

Below are scans of the first five pages of the book. Click on each one for a larger version.

David Tennant Treat 4 Today for Wednesday 17th November 2010

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today has been chosen by Patricia Gardener.

Patricia explains the reason she has chosen this photo as:

"This picture shows how relaxed and comfortable he is in his now Post-Who days. Moving towards the regeneration, he was looking tired and (dare I say it) older - that might have been a conscious decision by the make up people to enhance the effect of a Doctor nearing the end of the current life. But now ... with the Fright Night pictures, how youthful he looked in Single Father and this picture - one wonders if he has a portrait in the attic, gradually ageing .... "

The photo is a promo picture from when David was on Ask Rhod Gilbert last month.

First of all, the answers to the David Tennant Treat 4 Today from yesterday:

1) Fires Of Pompeii
2) Doomsday
3) The Next Doctor

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is two videos which show David Tennant's arrival and departure from Radio Two on Saturday 9th October 2010. These videos have only been posted today and a couple of people have pointed them out so thanks to them.
At David's arrival, it appears that he was immediately surrounded by a group of eBayers (those people who get him to sign a lot of things to put on eBay to make a profit) so genuine fans could not get close to him but thankfully by the time he departed, the BBC had put up barriers to make it fairer and safer for everyone and you can hear the chat he has with lots of fans.

The David Tennant Treat 4 Today is the trailer for Secret Smile.

This was a drama which was broadcast in December 2005 on ITV.

I tried to find a trailer for the programme on YouTube and it brought up two.

The first one is definitely a trailer but the second one (at 1 minute 56 seconds) seems too long to be a genuine trailer but whatever it is, it gives a good feel of the drama.
